The Utah Hockey Club announced Friday afternoon that forward Dylan Guenther is out indefinitely with a lower-body injury. Utah recalled forward Josh Doan from their AHL affiliate, the Tucson Roadrunners in a corresponding move. Guenther has been a revelation this season as he’s just one point shy of breaking his career-high of 35 points set last season. Guenther last played in Wednesday night’s 4-1 loss to the Florida Panthers where he was a -3 with two shots on goal. Utah head coach Andre Tourigny said the injury occurred in a collision with Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov.

Dylan Guenther Out Due to Injury
With 16 goals this season, Guenther is currently Utah’s leading goal scorer and has 34 points this season while averaging 16 minutes of ice time. Doan, an AHL all-star, recorded just two points in nine games with Utah this year prior to being sent down to Tucson. Utah will slot him in Guenther’s place on the second-line and first power play unit.
Guenther has been one of Utah’s most important forwards. The 21-year-old winger has a shoot-first mentality, which is why his current 16.3 shooting percentage is a career best. Guenther is second among Utah skaters with nine even strength goals and already has 98 shots on goal this season. However, the team’s power play will miss Guenther the most. He leads the team with seven power play goals and has nine power play points, which is third on Utah.
What It Means
The forward has formed a strong partnership with Logan Cooley as his centre. Their line is second on Utah with 15 goals scored, while playing 256 total minutes together. Utah’s starting goaltender Connor Ingram just came back from a long absence, but now the team will be without of one of its top forwards. Guenther’s injury isn’t season ending, but he’ll be out a while.
