A pair of players are facing supplemental discipline for separate incidents in Saturday’s Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks game. News came down that Oilers star forward Connor McDavid and Canucks blueliner Tyler Myers have been suspended. Both have been suspended for three games.

Both McDavid and Myers were suspended after getting match penalties for separate cross-check incidents late in Saturday’s game. McDavid and Cancuks forward Conor Garland got into a tussle where McDavid cross-checked his opponent.
It was the second time in less than a few days that McDavid got into some hot water. He caught Minnesota Wild forward Marcus Johansson with a high elbow in Wednesday’s game. The Oilers captain avoid supplemental discipline for that incident. However, he got suspended for this one.
A few minutes later, Myers then cross-checked Oilers blueliner Evan Bouchard in the face. Bouchard doubled over after getting hit in the mouth and Myers was ejected.
This is the second career suspension for McDavid, who was given a ban of two games in 2019. However, Myers will be serving his third career suspension after running afoul of the Department of Player Safety in 2012 and 2014.
What It Means
Since both players were given match penalties, the league automatically looks at the incidents. The players received news of the hearings on Sunday.
Losing a player like McDavid will no doubt hurt the Oilers. The team does have great players and has won without him before. However, losing a leader like McDavid will cause a big hole in the team’s lineup.
Myers is a veteran part of the Canucks’ blueline group. Vancouver is still in the mix for a Stanley Cup Playoff spot, but needs to get back into gear. The Canucks were expected to be a contender, but things have gone sideways so far this season.
