The Minnesota Wild have announced that they have re-signed Marcus Foligno to a four-year contract, with an AAV of $4 M. Bill Guerin, the General Manager of the Wild, made this signing known this Friday evening. Adding this type of piece for the Wild brings their team together as they play through their preseason schedule.

The Minnesota Wild Re-Signed Left Winger Marcus Foligno
Marcus Foligno, 32, is a 12-year NHL veteran. He has played for two teams, the Buffalo Sabres, and going back to the outset of the 2017-18 campaign, the Wild. In 743 career games, he has 116 goals and 272 points. Last season was a bit of a drop-off, as he recorded seven goals, and 14 assists, for 21 points. In contrast, the year before he had career highs in goals (23), assists (19), points (42), shots (98), and PIMs (112). He maintained his physical play, recording his ninth career season of 184 or more hits. Foligno still shows a high competitive level and is deserving of his contract.
What Does This Mean for the Minnesota Wild
The Minnesota Wild have been quiet in the offseason, especially regarding the free agent front. Also, they did lose a few players, such as defenceman Matt Dumba, John Klingberg, and tough guy Ryan Reaves. Therefore, they need to retain the important pieces they do have already in place. Re-signing Mats Zuccarello earlier today helps to solidify their roster. Their top two forward lines should provide enough offence for them to be competitive again in the Western Conference. Moreover, Foligno helps to assure their third line. He likely gets to play with Marco Rossi, who is still trying to find his stride as the high draft pick. Maybe that will ignite the flame in Foligno that saw his production up just back in 2021-22. Either way, the money that Guerin has invested here, shows confidence in Foligno’s game to play until he is 36.
