Near the end of practice, Broberg slid into the sideboards and hobbled off the ice, favoring his right leg. Trainers had to help Broberg get off the ice.
Head coach Jim Montgomery did not have much to say following practice. However, he did say that Broberg would be evaluated on Thursday to determine the extent of the injury.
Broberg Injured for the Second Time
This is not Broberg’s first injury this season. The defenceman was injured in November and missed 12 games. Like the November injury, this one is to Broberg’s leg. Unlike the November injury, this one may be more severe. However, we will not find out more until Thursday.
What It Means
An injury to Broberg is one of the last things the Blues need right now. If he misses time, Justin Faulk would likely pair with Ryan Suter. In addition, Scott Perunovich would likely re-enter the lineup and play alongside Tyler Tucker.
Broberg’s first season with the Blues has been a success. He has been a key reason why the Blues are in playoff contention. If Broberg misses time, the Blues will need someone to step up. This could be an opportunity for Perunovich to show he can help a team win during the crucial part of the season. On the other hand, this is when veterans like Faulk, Suter, and Colton Parayko are counted on to step up. Regardless, if the Broberg injury is severe, someone will need to step up.
