It’s time for another edition of our NHL rumours. The March 3 trade deadline is coming in just about a month and teams are at a crossroads. Some clubs are going to have to retool while others are trying to load up for a Stanley Cup run. However, the flat cap situation will make deals very hard to come by. Teams like the Boston Bruins and Detroit Red Wings might ask about a Bo Horvat trade. This edition of NHL rumours looks into that possibility.
All NHL rumours come from the original source and are subject to change.

Bruins, Red Wings Look Into Bo Horvat Trade
Rumour: The show Donnie & Dhali speculated on Horvat’s future with the Vancouver Canucks. Some talk is that Canucks’ brass is going to see how the captain takes to new head coach Rick Tocchet. However, it seems that Jim Rutherford and Patrik Allvin will try to get something instead of letting Horvat walk for nothing.
“The two sides did talk on the weekend..”

The hosts tried to like defenceman Brandon Carlo into a possible deal with the Bruins. Carlo is 26 years old and makes $4.1 million until the end of the 2026-27. He’d be a good addition to a Canucks’ defence that could use some depth.
The Athletic’s Max Bultman and Thomas Drance discussed a hypothetical deal between the Red Wings and Canucks. Both agree that Horvat would be a compliment to team captain Dylan Larkin. However, it would mean that Detroit has potentially north of $16 million tied up in two centres. Both pivots are around the same age and Detroit would have to give up something to acquire Horvat.
What a Bo Horvat Trade Would Mean
Horvat is going to be a hot commodity, but the Wings and Bruins are in different places. Boston is in pole position for the President’s Trophy and are chasing a Stanley Cup. The team would have to move some money around and would have to give up some tangible assets to make a blockbuster trade happen.
Detroit is still building into a contender that may be a couple of years away. General manager Steve Yzerman has carefully crafted this club, but landing Horvat would be a big coup. Rutherford and Allvin would likely want a hefty return like righthanded defenceman Filip Hronek or young centres.
There will be a lot of teams seeking Horvat’s services, but these are two of the bigger ticket teams that are looking at him. The Canucks say that it’s not a rebuild, but it’s smelling like one.
