Filip Chytil Injury Setback Ends Season
Chytil had returned from his native country to try to get back into the Rangers’ lineup. However, he suffered an injury setback and had to be helped off the ice on Friday during a practice session. The 24-year-old had been out of the lineup since early November.
“The organization’s top priority throughout this process has been Filip’s health and we will continue to support him in his recovery with an aim to return for the 2024-25 season,” the team said in a statement.
Chytil had six assists in 10 games played during the 2023-24 campaign. He had a Corsi for of 58.9 and a relative Corsi of 12.9. The Czech pivot was taken in the first round, 21st overall of the 2017 NHL Draft.
He’s only played for the New York Rangers during his seven-year NHL career. Chytil has a total of 64 goals and 80 assists for 144 points in 337 career games.
What It Means
This is a devastating blow to a dynamic young player with a rough injury history. Chytil has been in and out the lineup due to a number of injury problems. He’s a very solid player for the Rangers when he does suit up. The Kid Line of Alexis Lafreniere, Kaapo Kakko and him provided a glimpse of an exciting future for the Blueshirts. However, that future has been cast into doubt due to a very serious injury.
The Rangers will likely have to dip into the trade market to find themselves a good second-line centre. New York will likely have to pony up in order to get themselves someone to become a solid part of the team’s middle six.
