The Las Vegas Raiders will enter the 2025 NFL Draft with nine total selections, with three of them coming on Days 1 and 2.
The Raiders have several needs across their roster that need to be addressed, especially on the offensive end as each position outside of maybe tight end could use an infusion of talent. Las Vegas answered their short-term question at quarterback when they traded for veteran Geno Smith though the team is still need of a long-term successor.
The Raiders have been plagued by bad quarterback play the past couple of seasons, and while Smith will help for the foreseeable future the organization would be best served looking for a developmental prospect. Unfortunately, this year’s draft class doesn’t feature many quarterbacks who are projected to develop into starters though a few of them are intriguing dart throws.
For example, Texas’ Quinn Ewers is expected to hear his name called on Day 2 of the draft and is reportedly set to visit the Raiders as part of his pre-draft process via Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated:
“Just as newsworthy is what’s happening around Ewers’s pro day. The plan is for him to meet with the Jets and Las Vegas Raiders today and have dinner with the New Orleans Saints brass tonight, with all three teams expected to send big crews to Austin. He’s already has 30 visits set up with the Dallas Cowboys, Indianapolis Colts and Raiders for early April.
So, yes, there’s a lot of intrigue here. And rightfully so.”
Ewers is an interesting quarterback prospect because he’s got the arm talent to launch the football downfield and hit receivers off-platform in the face of pressure but he’s got his fair share of flaws. Ewers struggles with consistency week-to-week and often has a hard time diagnosing defenses, so his future in the NFL might be closer to a backup’s than a starter’s.
Despite some of the deficiencies in his game, he’s a solid flier to take in the draft given that some of the things he struggles with can be fixed with good coaching. Ewers might not be the most exciting draft pick, but the Raiders need to do something about the future of their quarterback spot.
