Los Angeles was the only team in the division that lost on Sunday
Coming into Week 4, everyone knew the Las Vegas Raiders needed a bounce-back win over the Cleveland Browns. But Sunday’s victory became even more important to keep pace in the AFC West as the Los Angeles Chargers, who played the Kansas City Chiefs, were the only team in the division to lose as the Denver Broncos pulled off another upset.
Broncos 10 New York Jets 9
- QB Bo Nix: 12/25, 60 yards, 1 TD, 0 INTs
- RB Javonte Williams: 16 carries, 77 yards (4.8 ypc)
- WR Courtland Sutton: 3 catches, 60 yards, 1 TD
- S P.J. Locke: 10 total tackles, 1 sack
- DL Zach Allen: 5 total tackles, 1 TFL, 3 QB hits
It was a wet and ugly win for the Broncos as the team didn’t score until the second half and only had one touchdown on the afternoon. That led to a pretty underwhelming stat line for rookie quarterback Bo Nix as the defense carried the team with five total sacks. Denver had six different players get to the quarterback to improve its record to 2-2, setting up for an interesting matchup with the Raiders next week.
Next Game: vs Raiders
Kansas City Chiefs 17 Los Angeles Chargers 10
- QB Patrick Mahomes: 19/29, 245 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT
- RB Kareem Hunt: 14 carries, 69 yards (4.9 ypc)
- TE Travis Kelce: 7 catches, 89 yards
- WR Xavier Worthy: 3 catches, 73 yards, 1 TD
- DT Chris Jones: 4 total tackles, 2 sacks
- LB Drue Tranquill: 10 total tackles, 1 TFL
Chargers Stats:
- QB Justin Herbert: 16/27, 179 yards, 1 TD
- RB J.K. Dobbins: 14 carries, 32 yards (2.3 ypc)
- WR Ladd McConkey: 5 catches, 67 yards, 1 TD
- OLB Bud Dupree: 2 sacks
- LB Denzel Perryman: 8 total tackles
Los Angeles managed to jump out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter. However, the Chargers’ rushing attack never got going as the offense stalled out and the Chiefs won with a late touchdown from Mahomes.
Kansas City’s offense wasn’t much to speak of, but Mahomes finding the rookie Worthy for a 54-yard touchdown at the end of the first half helped wake the team up and lead to 17 unanswered points. Also, Travis Kelce finally got going with 20 more yards in this Sunday’s game than he’s had all year.
The Chiefs may have lost wide receiver Rashee Rice for the season after Rice collided with Mahomes making a tackle after the quarterback’s interception.

- Las Vegas opens as underdogs: “FanDuel Sportsbook posted odds for all the Week 5 action, with the Raiders opening as 1.5-point underdogs on the road vs the Denver Broncos next Sunday with an O/U of 36.5,” Silver and Black Pride’s Marcus Johnson wrote.
- Antonio Pierce apologizes for ‘business decisions’ comment: “There was a lot of hoopla, and stuff,” Pierce said Sunday via ESPN’s Paul Gutierrez. “Probably started with me, with my comments, and I apologize for that. Don’t want to be a distraction that way but … we just went to work each and every day. Things came out throughout the week and guys just never flinched [or] blinked.”
- Raiders projected to add Cam Ward in draft: “The Raiders are already considering a switch from veteran journeyman Gardner Minshew II to 2023 fourth-round pick Aidan O’Connell, and Las Vegas’s future likely doesn’t include either as a starter,” Sports Illustrated’s Daniel Flick wrote. “Ward, whose college career includes stops at Incarnate Word and Washington State, has enjoyed a strong start to his first season at Miami. The 22-year-old leads the FBS with 14 touchdown passes and is second in passing yards with 1,439.”
