New Raiders’ quarterback has struggled in the red zone
This sounds familiar, but the Las Vegas Raiders’ new quarterback has struggled in the red zone.
Naturally.
It seems like Raiders’ quarterbacks always have issues near the goal line.
The Raiders, of course, traded for Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith earlier this month. He will be the Raiders’ fourth starting quarterback in as many seasons. If Smith’s recent history is any indication, the Raiders’ troubles in the red zone may not be over.
According to a recent tweet by The Associated Press, Smith had the third lowest (worst) passer rating in the red zone in the past three seasons he was Seattle’s starting quarterback.
Worst red zone passer rating since new #Raiders QB Geno Smith took over as starter in Seattle in 2022 among 29 QBs with 20+ starts with a red zone attempt:
Daniel Jones 80.3
Kenny Pickett 85.2
Trevor Lawrence 85.2
Geno Smith 85.4
Gardner Minshew 88.5
Derek Carr 88.9— Josh Dubow (@JoshDubowAP) March 10, 2025
Smith is ahead of any Derek Carr and Gardner Minshew in that time period. Carr was the Raiders’ quarterback in 2022 and Minshew was their Week1 starter in 2024.
So, the Raiders need Smith to improve in this area to help kickstart the offense.
