Minshew is one of the best in the NFL throwing passes over yards downfield
When the Las Vegas Raiders signed Gardner Minshew this offseason he was expected to compete for the starting job. Fans saw it play out in training camp with both quarterbacks not taking the bull by the horns. With no QB standing out Antonio Pierce decided to go the veteran route with Minshew.
Minshew is making Pierce intelligent with his stats through two games. He is third in passing yards and first in completion percentage. While there have been plenty of short passes with his ADOT at 6.3, he has excelled passing downfield.
According to PFF, Minshew is 15/20 for 316 yards on passes 10 yards or more. He is third in EPA, CPOE, and YPA on those same throws.
Gardner Minshew is top-3 in EPA, CPOE and Y/A in throws over 10 yards. I’m just reporting the facts.

With him having dynamic weapons outside, Minshew is starting to stretch the field. His willingness to let it loose helped the Raiders achieve their comeback vs. the Baltimore Ravens on the road. If he can continue to push the ball downfield accurately, the Raiders can have an explosive passing game.
