Raiders’ offense was stagnant when it mattered most
Don’t be surprised if the Las Vegas Raiders’ coaching staff uses late-game situational success in training camp practices and in the preseason as a significant measuring stick when determining the winner of the starting quarterback battle between incumbent Aidan O’Connell and free-agent addition Gardner Minshew.
The Raiders’ struggled to extend drives when it mattered most in 2023 as they were among the league leaders in going three-and-out on drives in the second half. The Raiders went three-and-out on 38 percent of their drives in the second half last season. That was sixth worst rate in the NFL.
O’Connell started 10 games for the Raiders.
Minshew struggled in that area as well as the Indianapolis Colts went three-and-out on 39 percent of their second-half drives in 2023, which was the fifth worst rate in the league.

So, both players have work to do in this area in leading their offense in critical points of games.
