2023 3rd-round pick heads to Philadelphia
If Byron Young re-energizes his NFL career, it won’t be with the Las Vegas Raiders.
The Raiders’ 2023 third-round pick was claimed off waivers by NFC powerhouse, the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday.

The Raiders waived the defensive tackle on Wednesday as part of a move in which they claimed fellow defensive tackle Jonah Laulu off waivers from the Indianapolis Colts. They waived Laulu on Tuesday, the NFL cut-down day after a so-so preseason. Laulu, a Las Vegas native, was a seventh-round pick who finished at Oklahoma and started his college career at Hawaii.
Young, an Alabama product, was drafted by the Raider’ previous regime. He only played in six games last season and struggled in the preseason this year, so it’s not a shock the Raiders cut him even though he did make their initial 53-man roster Tuesday. Now, Young will be a backup in Philadelphia.
The Raiders, who didn’t have any of the players they waived Tuesday claimed, also waived seventh-round pick, cornerback M.J. Devonshire on Wednesday. It is not known if he’s been claimed or not.
If not, he could be signed to the Raiders’ practice squad. They currently have two openings and 15 spots filled.
UPDATE:
Devonshire cleared waivers and he signed to the Raiders’ practice squad.
