Las Vegas Raiders superstar Maxx Crosby announced he will undergo arthroscopic ankle surgery and miss the remainder of the season. It is yet another blow in what has been an absolutely awful year for the Raiders overall, and now their leader won’t suit up for the rest of the year.
Crosby initially injured his ankle in the Raiders’ Week 2 win over the Baltimore Ravens, but he sat out just one week before returning to the field. However, he aggravated the injury even worse in last week’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, prompting surgery.
The Raiders star announced on his Instagram page, with Crosby saying that he will always do everything he can to suit up for the fans who pay their money to watch him play, via ESPN’s Paul Gutierrez:
“Some people will say that I should just take my time and just relax and get ready for next year, I will never be that person,” he wrote. “I have a team around me that made it possible for me to come back and still disrupt even though I truly wasn’t fully healthy all year. I will stand in the fire no matter what the circumstance because this game is my life. If I got a heartbeat, I expect to play for the fans that spend their hard earned money to watch me perform and wear my jersey every Sunday. I do it because it means everything to me and I will never change my approach to this game.”
Gutierrez also noted that there is a chance Crosby could need a second surgery on the ankle as the extent of the injury could be worse than initially believed:
Crosby will meet with Dr. Rob Anderson on Monday and undergo the arthroscopic surgery that will determine whether a second surgery is needed and how much damage he has suffered to the ankle, sources told ESPN. Doctors believe the extent of the injury could be worse than initially thought.
Crosby is a true cornerstone of this Raiders franchise, and not having him on the field is a massive blow. But he will continue to be a leader from the sideline and push this team as much as he can as the Raiders now look to 2023 first-round pick Tyree Wilson as well as K’Lavon Chaisson, who has come on strong as of late.
Raiders QB Aidan O’Connell suffered a bone bruise in knee
While Maxx Crosby definitely won’t be suiting up, it remains unclear whether quarterback Aidan O’Connell will as the Raiders are set to host the Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night Football.
O’Connell suffered a bone bruise in his left knee against the Bucs and was deemed a longshot to play against the Falcons, with it being expected that Desmond Ridder would get the start for the Silver and Black.
