At the beginning of this NFL offseason, there were some rumblings about the Las Vegas Raiders potentially looking to sign quarterback Tom Brady. Ultimately, the greatest quarterback of all time decided to retire from the NFL, but now he will still be joining the Raiders franchise.
A couple of weeks ago there were rumors that Brady was in deep discussions with owner Mark Davis to potentially become a limited partner of the Raiders. Now those talks have been finalized, and Brady will soon be a Raider at the highest level.
According to Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports, Brady and Davis have agreed to a deal to make the former Patriots and Buccaneers quarterback a minority owner of the Raiders:
Less than two weeks after ESPN reported the longtime quarterback had entered “deep discussions” to become a limited partner of the Raiders, Brady and team owner Mark Davis have agreed to a deal that’ll make the former Patriots and Buccaneers star a minority owner, pending NFL approval.
“We have come to an agreement for Tom Brady to become a partner in the Raiders and we have submitted it to the NFL for approval,” Davis said, via ESPN. “We’re excited for Tom to join the Raiders.”
This was something that was already expected and is now a reality. Of course, Brady nearly became the Raiders quarterback a few years ago but would join Tampa Bay instead. And now after being linked to the Raiders in some form or fashion for so long, he is now part of the silver and black.
This is also the latest partnership between Brady and Davis. Earlier this offseason Brady acquired an ownership stake in the Las Vegas Aces of the WNBA, a franchise that Davis primarily owns so the two clearly have a great relationship and trust with each other.
Now Brady becomes the latest link to the New England Patriots to join the Raiders. Of course, head coach Josh McDaniels and GM Dave Ziegler both came over from New England. Additionally, two of the biggest signings this offseason for the Raiders, quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and wide receiver Jakobi Meyers, are also former Patriots.
Prior to this agreement, Brady had tried to get into NFL ownership with the Miami Dolphins, another franchise whom he had been linked to as a player as well. But now, pending NFL owners’ approval which is likely just a formality, Brady will have his ownership stake in the league.
