The Las Vegas Raiders may not have added any big-name players in the offseason, but they made some quality signings that should help the team throughout the 2023 season.
The biggest addition was Jimmy Garoppolo, though his signing left the Jakobi Meyers addition flying under the radar. Meyers agreed to a three-year, $33 million deal with the Raiders and reunited with Josh McDaniels who was his offensive coordinator during their time together on the New England Patriots.
Las Vegas already had a true alpha wide receiver in Davante Adams, but Meyers figured to slot in as a capable number two who would be able to take advantage of all the extra defensive attention on his new teammate. So far, that has been exactly the case as Meyers has established himself as the secondary option for Garoppolo and the passing game.
As far as what it’s been like to line up alongside Adams, Meyers has been relishing the experience.
“It’s fun,” Meyers said. “I definitely enjoy playing with him. He’s going to do what he does every week. Every game he’s going to come out and play hard and he makes it easy to where I just got to do my job.”
In their recent loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, Adams and Meyers carried the bulk of the offensive load as they combined for 20 receptions for 257 yards. Adams was the one that scored two touchdowns, though Meyers had a couple of opportunities to score himself.
While the duo has been able to effectively play off each other, it hasn’t quite resulted in wins as Las Vegas sits at 1-2 on the young season. Meyers did miss Week 2 with a concussion, so they’ve only been able to play two full games together thus far.
However, there’s optimism that the tandem will get better as the season goes on which will be necessary as the rest of the AFC continues to stack up wins. Hopefully, Adams and Meyers are able to uplift the Raiders when they take on the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4.
Davante Adams loves seeing Deion Sanders thrive in Colorado
Like the rest of the football world, Adams has been tuning in to college football to watch Deion Sanders and Colorado. The Buffaloes just suffered their first loss of the season this past weekend, but Adams has been loving watching Sanders do his thing at the collegiate level.
