The Las Vegas Raiders were finally able to get back in the win column with a huge victory on Monday night. And for star receiver Davante Adams it was a bit more personal as it came against his former team, the Green Bay Packers.
The game was a bit of an offensive struggle for both sides as neither team eclipsed 300 total yards, and Adams himself finished with just 45 yards on four catches. But the Raiders were able to pick off Packers QB Jordan Love three times and come away with a 17-13 win.
Often times in games against a former team, players will downplay the importance and insist it is just like any other game, but that wasn’t the case for Adams. The Raiders star receiver admitted it felt good to get the win against his former team and end any potential discussion of the narrative that he should’ve never left Green Bay, via Paul Gutierrez of ESPN:
“It was good,” he said of facing Green Bay, which drafted him in 2014 and traded him to Las Vegas in 2022.
“I wish I could have been able to send them off with a few more plays made, but at the end of the day, we beat them. Now nobody can make up this crazy narrative and talk about how I shouldn’t have left and all of this stuff that was getting ready to come if we didn’t win. So, glad to get that win over them today. We just want to beat everybody.”
From the moment he left Green Bay, many questioned whether Adams had made the right choice and if he could continue to produce away from Aaron Rodgers. Adams put the latter thought to rest last season as made his third consecutive All-Pro First Team, this time in the silver and black. And now a win over the Packers, in his mind, cements that he is in the right place.
Obviously, the Raiders just getting another win is greatly important, as the team was on the brink of allowing this season to spiral out of control. And Adams himself has been the most outspoken player about the issues still plaguing the Raiders this season.
But this Monday night victory could be a step in the right direction, and it makes it that much sweeter for Adams to do so against the team he left. Now it will be up to Adams and the Raiders to build off this win and keep the positive momentum going forward.
