The Las Vegas Raiders are in arguably the toughest division in football, but one team they have maintained success against is the Denver Broncos. The Raiders have won six straight games and last year star receiver Davante Adams torched the Denver defense both times despite the Broncos having one of the premier young cornerbacks in the game in Patrick Surtain II.
In just his second NFL season Surtain was named a First Team All-Pro and has already established himself as one of the best in the league at his position. But Adams topped 100 yards in both games against the Broncos last season, and that doesn’t sit well with the Broncos defender who is already looking forward to next season’s matchups.
Suratin appeared on the “Up and Adams Show” with Kay Adams and says he is looking forward to many more battles with the Raiders star in the future:
“He’s a technician at what he does. We battled it out the first year, we went against each other, and I’m looking forward to many more battles. Obviously he’s in my division so we play twice a year and we just battle, compete at the high level. Mano-a-Mano on the field, under the bright lights on the biggest stage. I’m also excited about that matchup as well too, as we go against each other this year as well. I’m looking forward to that matchup.”
The best part is that we won’t have to wait long to see this matchup as the Raiders travel to Denver to face the Broncos in Week 1. After disappointing seasons for both squads, the Raiders and Broncos will be looking to send a message to start the season and whoever wins this All-Pro matchup between Adams and Surtain will likely help their team to victory.
In the Raiders’ Week 4 win over Denver Adams finished with 9 catches for 101 yards. In the rematch in Denver in Week 11 Adams was even better totaling 7 catches for 141 yards and two touchdowns including a 35-yarder to win the game in overtime.
There weren’t many who were able to get the better of Surtain throughout the season, let alone twice so there is no doubt that those games are eating at him this offseason. The fact that it is also a division rival makes it even worse, but it also means there are multiple chances for him to get his revenge. But Adams remains one of the best receivers in the league, and the Raiders are going to do everything possible to ensure he has more games at the expense of Surtain.
