Here we go again. It must be the offseason because there has been a lot of talk surrounding whether the Raiders will look to trade Davante Adams.
This time last year we were talking about the possibility the Raiders could trade Davante Adams. Just a year after acquiring him in trade with the Green Packers in exchange for their first and second round picks that year.
Last year it was because they cut Derek Carr. And because so many misinterpreted his words to suggest that he came to the Raiders because of Carr and now that Carr was gone, he would want out as well. That was never the case. He tried to clear that up, but some people wouldn’t listen.
This offseason it’s because…well, it’s a lot of things, depending on who you ask. The one person whose opinion matters most in this is new GM Tom Telesco. And Tuesday he answered that question with three words:
“He’s a Raider.”
To be fair, those are factually true words. And we’ve heard GMs and coaches say such things only to see that play *not* be on the team a short time later.
For instance, Telesco used the exact same words when speaking of Josh Jacobs. And there is absolutely no guarantee they will agree to terms with the soon-to-be free agent back this offseason.
Keep in mind, there are two sides to this. Telesco could very well be suggesting the Raiders have no intention of trading Adams. But — and not that I am suggesting this — but what if Adams asked to be traded?
Many who think Adams *could* be traded this offseason think that way because they think the 31-year-old might not be keen on rebuilding with a rookie quarterback. That he would prefer playing with an established veteran QB on a team that may feel like their an elite receiver away from being contenders.
There is nothing to suggest any of that to be the case. Just something to keep in mind.
For now, it sounds like Telesco is stating that they intend to keep Adams. Which would be good as it would either make the Raiders a more attractive destination for a free agent or make the development of a rookie that much smoother.
