Las Vegas has some work remaining to do
We are on Day 3 of NFL free agency and the Las Vegas Raiders’ roster is evolving and will continue to do so during the coming days and weeks and into the April 24-26.
So, while this list is fluid, let’s look at the Raiders’ remaining needs at this very moment (Isn’t it cool that quarterback isn’t on the top needs list anymore?):
Linebacker:
The Raiders saw starting linebackers Robert Spillane and Divine Deablo leave in free agency. Elandon Roberts was signed to start on a one-year deal. but they also need another starter and could use some more young depth in case the likes of Tommy Eichenberg, Amari Burney and Amari Gainer aren’t considered foundational pieces by the new regime. This will likely be a position Las Vegas looks at early in the draft.
Running back:
This is a big need. Free agency is pretty weak, so expect Las Vegas to address this need in the draft and the great news is it’s a deep draft running back class.
Wide receiver:
The Raiders’ reportedly want a new No. 1 receiver to pair with fellow starter Jakobi Meyers. There aren’t a lot of top receiver options available in free agency, but there are some decent options. I’d expect the Raiders to add a veteran receiver in the coming days.
Cornerback:
The Raiders need a cornerback even after adding Eric Stokes in free agency. First, they need a nickel to replace Nate Hobbs, who want to Green Bay in free agency. I’d expect the Raiders to add a couple of more players at this position in both free agency and the draft.
Defensive line:
Whether it’s in the middle or on the edge, you can never have enough good D-linemen. Another rotational piece wouldn’t hurt.
Conclusion:
These are the main needs, but this roster could use some depth at nearly every position. The offseason is very early and the work will continue.
