Get to know new Las Vegas safety
The Las Vegas Raiders signed safety Jeremy Chinn to a two-year $16 million contract this week. Let’s get to know him better:
He’s a big, versatile player:
Chinn is a rugged 6-fot-3, 220 pound player who is extremely versatile. He can move around and play several different spots and he was essentially an extra linebacker in Washington last season. He may to be the same caliber of the player, Tre’von Moehrig, he is replacing, but Chinn is a legitimate player and defensive coordinator Patrick Graham should have fun playing him all over he field.
He had a big 2024 season:
Chinn had a career year after signing a one-year deal worth just over $4 million after he spent his first four seasons with the Carolina Panthers. He had 117 tackles and made a big impact on a playoff team.
He fits the system:
Chinn should step right into Pete Carroll’s team and fit in well. He flourished in Washington under head coach Dan Quinn, who, of course, was an assistant under Carroll in Seattle.
Small-school star:
Chinn was a star at Southern Illinois where he played both cornerback and safety. He was a FCS All-American in 2019. He was heavily scouted and he Carolina Panthers took him in the second round of the 2020 draft.

Hall of Fame bloodlines:
Chinn’s uncle is Denver Broncos’ Pro Football Hall of Fame safety Steve Atwater. Chinn fits into the Raiders’ safety room when it comes to family safety history. Fellow starter Isaiah Pola-Mao is the nephew of Hall of Fame safety Troy Polamalu and safety Trey Taylor is the cousin of Hall of Fame safety Ed Reed. How cool is that?
