Former Jets coach to interview with Las Vegas
The Las Vegas Raiders have started to request interviews for the coaching opening left by the firing of Antonio Pierce. They have requested to talk to five candidates so far: Aaron Glenn, Ben Johnson, Steve Spagnuolo, Todd Monken and Robert Saleh.
Let’s get to know Saleh some more:
Current job:
He has been a consultant with the Green Bay Packers since being fired in October as the head coach of the New York Jets.
Age:
He will be 46 on January 31.
Coaching experience:
Saleh went 20-36 as the Jets’ head coach. He’s been an NFL coach since 2005. He had success as the San Francisco 49ers’ defensive coordinator from 2017-2020.
Other interest:
The Jacksonville Jaguars also have requested to interview Saleh as head coach. The 49ers are reportedly interested in hiring him as defensive coordinator and there likely would be more coordinator interest as well.
Why the Raiders are interested:
He’s a very strong defensive mind and leader. He is extremely well respected and connected and could attract a decent staff.
