On Wednesday, the Las Vegas Raiders announced they signed running back Chris Collier and defensive end Andre Carter II to the active roster.
In a corresponding move, the Raiders placed star defensive end Maxx Crosby and running back Sincere McCormick on injured reserve. Both Crosby and McCormick are dealing with ankle injuries and will miss the remainder of the 2024 season after being placed on IR.
After originally signing with the Baltimore Ravens as a free agent, Collier signed onto Las Vegas’ practice squad in Week 12. In his final collegiate season at Lock Haven in 2023, Collier recorded 1,393 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns, along with 22 receptions for 238 yards and three touchdowns. He was named an AFCA Division First Team All-American for his efforts.
Carter was previously with the Minnesota Vikings practice squad but now has an opportunity to get more reps with the Raiders. Carter originally signed onto the Vikings’ practice squad after going undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft and appeared in 12 games. The defensive end played his college ball at Army, where he recorded 15.5 sacks in 2021.
Both Collier and Carter are in line for snaps following the injuries to Crosby and McCormick, though the two will have an uphill battle sticking on the roster after the conclusion of the 2024 season. Las Vegas has nothing left to play for other than draft positioning in the 2025 NFL Draft. They are currently tied with the New York Giants for the worst record in the NFL, though they are in prime position to select one of the top quarterbacks in the class.
Las Vegas has been heavily linked to Colorado star Shedeur Sanders, who could very well go first overall, but if the team misses out on him, they’ll still have other options. Players like Miami’s Cam Ward or Alabama’s Jalen Milroe could be fallback options, but the team could also choose to pivot and select someone like either Texas’s Quinn Ewers or Georgia’s Carson Beck.
Regardless, players like Collier and Carter won’t be worrying about who the Raiders selected in the draft; instead, they will focus on trying to make an impact and land their next NFL contract.
Maxx Crosby felt like he was losing his mind amidst Raiders’ losing streak
Crosby has been a real trooper amidst all the losses the Raiders have endured over the past few years, but he had to admit that this year, he felt like he was losing his mind.
