Having Brock Bowers and Michael Mayer on offense, will only help the entire Las Vegas unit
When the Las Vegas Raiders made the surprising selection of Georgia tight end Brock Bowlers with the No. 13 overall pick in the April draft, their offense automatically changed.
The offensive coaching staff had to adjust the unexpected addition of Bowers into the offense to adjust and make him fit with 2023 second-round pick, fellow tight end Michael Mayer. Thus, the Raiders will know use much more 12 personnel offense (two tight ends and one running back and two wide receivers) than expected.
That could mean less alignments for the Raiders’ stable of wide receivers at times. But don’t expect Las Vegas receivers coach Edgar Bennett to be disappointed by that likely change.
Bennett is all for the varied attack.
“The name of the game is to have a lot of different weapons and play a lot of different personnel groupings. And so, it helps when you have guys that creates a matchup problem for the defense, that’s a good thing. And so, I think, obviously, our tight ends as a group, they will fit into that category. We hope to make sure we fit into that category as wide receivers, we want to cause problems with people as far as how they’re going to match up, how they’re going play us when we jump in 11 or 12 personnel. So just things like that to create the matchups that we want.”
While he has his hands full with his wide receivers, Bennett has liked what he’s seen from Bowers thus far.
“Another young guy that’s obviously a weapon,” Bennett said. ”Explosive and loves football.”
Yes, the Raiders’ offense this season will be all about the more the merrier.
