Lots of depth movement
There has been a lot of activity in the Las Vegas Raiders’ secondary this week.
Let’s look at how the unit stands:
Claimed off waivers:
Undrafted rookie Thomas Harper from Los Angeles Chargers. The Notre Dame product is listed as a safety, but can play some nickel corner.
Signed as a free agent:
Darnay Holmes. He was cut by the New York Giants on Tuesday. He was a fourth-round pick of the Giants in 2020 when Raiders’ defensive coordinator Patrick Graham was the Giants’ defensive coordinator.
Waived:
Seventh-round pick, cornerback M.J. Devonshire from Pittsburgh.
Placed on injured reserve:
Veteran cornerback Brandon Facyson on the injured reserve. Seventh-round pick, safety Trey Taylor. They must miss, at least, four games.
Starters:
Cornerback: Jack Jones, Jakorian Bennett and nickel Nate Hobbs.
Safeties: Tre’von Moehrig, Marcus Epps
Reserves:
Cornerback: Fourth-round pick, Decamarion Richardson and Holmes.
Safety: Isaiah Pola-Mao, Chris Smith and Harper.
Conclusion:
The Raiders are set with their starters, they just needed to tinker with their depth. Keeping their starters healthy is paramount.
