How many teams have a better quarterback situation in the AFC this season?
As the Las Vegas Raiders try to figure out who their starting quarterback will be, let’s see where they rank in the AFC in terms of their starting quarterback situation.
We will end it when the Raiders are listed.
Kansas City Chiefs:
This isn’t difficult. Patrick Mahomes is the best quarterback in the AFC, the entire NFL and he is already an an all-time great. Oh, and he’s going to play another dozen years or so.
Buffalo Bills:
Josh Allen is a bad man. He might be a little underrated because he’s not perfect and if you want to rank him a little lower on this list, I’d get it. But he’s the real deal no matter where you rank him.
Baltimore Ravens:
Lamar Jackson is a nightmare for defensive coordinator and he’s just getting better. Expect a monster season from this guy.
Cincinnati Bengals:
People forget about Joe Burrow some because of his recent injuries. But he is an elite player and he is just entering his prime. He’s a legit stud.
Houston Texans:
It’s difficult to rank C.J. Stroud because he’s played just one season. But it was one of the best rookie seasons put together by any quarterback ever. I don’t think it’s a fluke. He is just going to get better and better.
Los Angeles Chargers:
Justin Herbert being ranked sixth on this list shows just how ridiculously stacked this conference is at this position. If you downgrade Herbert, you just kidding yourself. Having Jim Harbaugh as his coach will help this player who has had to deal with some questionable leadership from his coaches early in his career. Yes, this guy’s talent is about to be unleashed.
New York Jets:
On one hand, it seems silly to have a legend like Aaron Rodgers ranked this low. But the truth is he is 40 and he missed virtually all of last season. Still, if healthy, this still is a winning quarterback.
Miami Dolphins:
I’m on Team Tua Tagovailoa. He isn’t elite. But he’s above average as well. When healthy, he is a handful.
Jacksonville Jaguars:
This is the same vibe as Herbert. The fact that Trevor Lawrence is ranked ninth on this list is a testament to just how stacked this conference is at quarterback. Lawrence is just coming into his own and he has potential to become quite the dangerous player.
Cleveland Browns:
DeShaun Watson has talent and he has had great success, but all know the know the recent history. He showed flashes last year. If he can get back to what he was, watch put for this squad.
Indianapolis Colts:
Injuries robbed Anthony Richardson of most of his rookie season. Yet, the massive quarterback from Florida showed why he was drafted so high in his short 2023 stint. He could take a big leap this season.
New England Patriots:
It’s just a hunch that rookie Drake Maye will beat out veteran Jacoby Brissett early in the season and have early success.
Las Vegas Raiders:
This is where Aidan O’Connell/Gardner Minshew fall on this list. Yes, the winner of the training camp better can rise on this list. But this exercise shows just how strong this conference is at the position.
