Several of Antonio Pierce’s 2024 staff members won’t return
Usually, when a new coach takes over, most of the assistant coaching staff from the previous regime is not retained.
There are some exceptions, but for the most part, it’s a clean slate.
Hwoever, new Las Vegas Raiders head coach Pete Carroll has retained a fair amount of holdovers from Antonio Pierce’s staff. So far, Carroll has hired back some coaches.
In two of his three biggest hires, Carroll has kept holdovers as he retained defensive coordinator Patrick Graham and special teams coach Tom McMahon. They are both working with their third head coach and are entering their fourth season in Las Vegas. Saturday night, another former Pierce assistant, defensive line coach Rob Leonard was retained.
However, ESPN reported Tuesday that several assistants from Pierce’s staff won’t be kept, they include running backs coach Cadillac Williams, wide receivers coach Edgar Bennett, linebackers coach Mike Caldwell, cornerbacks coach Ricky Manning Jr. and assistant quarterbacks coach Fred Walker.

Bennett has been the Raiders’ receivers coach since 2018 dating back to the Jon Gruden staff. He coached for three different full-time head coaches in both Oakland and Las Vegas. Caldwell’s departure was expected as Carroll hired John Glenn, who worked for him in Seattle, to coach the linebackers. It was speculated that Manning could return because he worked for Carroll in Seattle.
Surely, there will be other decisions made on the remaining staff members soon.
Meanwhile, the Raiders added to their administration and operations department by adding Mark Thewes from Denver.
