The news outlet reported that NFL owners decided at a league meeting this week that Brady will have no access to practice or production meetings of other teams if he becomes a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders.
There has never been an owner of a team who was an active broadcaster. The legendary quarterback is beginning his career at FOX’s No. 1 analyst this season. Broadcasters have extensive access to players and coaches during the week leading up to games to help their preparation.
But if Brady joins the Raiders, he will forego those perks. The owners don’t want to give team personnel an inside look at other teams that may be an advantage for teams. It’s understandable, but this would hurt Brady’s preparation for his job.
Among other restrictions Brady would face as an owner/broadcaster is he wouldn’t be free to criticize official’s as a league employee and if he does during broadcast, he could be subject to a fine.
Brady and Raiders owner Mark Davis has been working on a potential partnership for more than a year. The earliest it could be voted on is in October.
In July, Pro Football Talk reported Pro Football Hall of Fame defensive lineman Richard Seymour, who finished his career with the Oakland Raiders, is joining Brady as a part owner.
The report stated Brady and Seymour would own 10.4 percent of the Raiders under majority owner Mark Davis, who was the force of getting Seymour into the ownership group, according to the report. The report stated Brady and Seymour would have other partnerships involved in their stake of ownership.
In March, 2023, Brady became a partial owner of the Las Vegas Aces of the WNBA, their majority owner is Davis.
Davis has long been a fan of Brady and the two have forged a relationship in recent years. It was heavily speculated that the Raiders would seriously pursue Brady if he decided to play this season. Davis very much wanted Brady when he was a free agent in 2020.
Brady has said becoming a part owner of an NFL team is a dream come true. He did note he will have a “passive” role with the team. Thus, don’t expect him to be part of the on-field decision making.
If it happens, Brady now faces challenges in his new broadcasting career.
