The Las Vegas Raiders are suddenly in full-on free fall heading into their bye week.
After the Cincinnati Bengals dispatched of the Raiders 41-24 on Sunday, Las Vegas has now lost five in a row.
Sunday was especially hapless. Taking Cincinnati’s kneel down just before halftime out of the equation, the Bengals scored on each of their first five possessions to build a commanding 31-10 lead.
Though cornerback Jack Jones provided some brief hope with his 29-yard pick-six off Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow to begin the fourth quarter, the Raiders couldn’t seriously threaten after that.
During the loss, the Raiders benched quarterback Gardner Minshew in favor of recently acquired Desmond Ridder. Ridder did lead a touchdown drive on the Raiders’ final offensive possession. It was a 22-yard touchdown pass to Raiders rookie Brock Bowers.
Among the positives, Las Vegas receiver Jakobi Meyers had a productive day. Meyers hauled in eight grabs for 105 yards.
Still, that couldn’t save offensive coordinator Luke Getsy following the loss. The Raiders fired Getsy along with two other assistant coaches, quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello and offensive line coach James Cregg.
Before the Raiders fired this trio of coaches, Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce met with the media to share his thoughts on the loss.
