They wanted to look at a veteran this week
An interesting tidbit emerged from NFL reporter Aaron Wilson this week as he reported the Las Vegas Raiders had a scheduled work out with veteran running back Cam Akers this week, but he signed with the Houston Texans prior to it.
Before he signed with #Texans following a successful workout Sunday, Cam Akers was scheduled to work out this week for #Raiders per a league source @KPRC2 https://t.co/VXeeMzztLx

That begs the question: Are the Raiders in the market for another running back?
Let’s take a look how the Raiders’ running back room currently looks:
Current running backs:
Zamir White, Alexander Mattison, Ameer Abdullah, Dylan Laube, Brittain Brown, Sincere McCormick.
Remaining unrestricted free agents:.
Brandon Bolden
Some of the running backs available in free agency:
Dalvin Cook, Joshua Kelley, Latavius Murray, Kareem Hunt, Matt Breida, Jerick McKinnon, Melvin Gordon.
Conclusion:
The Raiders may have had interest in Akers simply because they liked him specifically. So, their interest in him doesn’t necessarily mean they want to look at running backs in general. But they could potentially use some help at the back end of the rotation. New Las Vegas general manager Tom Telesco drafted both Gordon and Kelley when he ran the Los Angeles Chargers. So, perhaps there could be interest. I’d say Kelley may be a better bet, if, indeed, the Raiders wanted to boost the position.
