The beginning of the 2023 season has been a mixed bag for the Las Vegas Raiders as they racked up a win against the Denver Broncos but then turned around and got embarrassed by the Buffalo Bills.
The offense has been adjusting to a few different moving parts, namely Jimmy Garoppolo, who took over as the starter after the Raiders decided to part ways with Derek Carr in the offseason.
Carr’s time with Las Vegas was essentially over when Josh McDaniels decided to bench him toward the end of the 2022 campaign. After failing to trade him, the Raiders eventually released Carr, who then signed with the New Orleans Saints.
Despite the sour ending, Carr expressed no ill will toward Las Vegas via Raiders Posts:
“After the game, I text Josh McDaniels. ‘Hey, congrats on beating the Broncos, man. That’s awesome. Just like we did last year.’ Say something and to get a nice text back. When I left I had a great conversation with Mark Davis. He knows at some point I’m gonna be coming back. He’s like, ‘You’re always welcome. This is always going to be home.’ Once a Raider, always a Raider. They always say that, and I’ll be thankful for that when I’m not a Saint for sure.
“But for that chapter to be over, at least…it didn’t end I don’t think it ended how I wanted. It didn’t end well or anything like that, but I’m gonna make the most of it. I’m gonna be who I am, I’m gonna be the kind of guy I want to be. My kids, what I want my kids to be if they go through a hard time. And that’s been fun to kind of learn that and become that man through this process.”
Carr has always been a high-character person, and that is made clear in his comments when discussing how things went down between him and the Raiders. No one would have blamed him for having hard feelings about how he was treated toward the end of last season, but he’s somehow managed to take the high road.
What probably makes things easier for Carr is the fact that he and the Saints have started the year off 2-0. Both he and Las Vegas, though, look to have moved on, and it’s good to hear that he still has love for the Silver and Black.
