When it comes to scoring touchdowns, Las Vegas Raiders wideout Davante Adams is arguably the best in the league.
While Adams may not be the fastest or biggest receiver, he’s an excellent route runner who understands how to use his body to create separation and angles to haul in passes. In Week 2, Jimmy Garoppolo and Adams connected for their first touchdown of the 2023 season and the latter should be in line to see more red zone targets his way.
It’s an uncanny ability for the star wideout as he has always been great at finding just enough space to score. Even in the red zone where coverage is tighter, Adams just finds a way to get it done.
Las Vegas is set to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday Night Football and Adams has the opportunity to pass Randy Moss in career red zone touchdowns. When he learned of the possible feat, Adams couldn’t help but be surprised.
“Well one, first, that’s crazy,” Adams said. “Obviously, that’s a pretty big deal. Being the top five, top anything in the entirety of this league is hard to do. So, it’s a big honor to be able to do that.”
Adams also tried to explain how he’s been able to score so often and he chalked it up to being put in advantageous situations and getting enough opportunities to do it. “I don’t know. I mean, just ever since college, really high school, just had a nose for the end zone and obviously being put in great situations by the coaches and quarterbacks over the years. They’ve given me a lot of opportunities down there to be able to execute and make those plays. So, I just capitalize on those as much as possible. I’m in the business of maximizing, and if I’m going to be the guy that they rely on to make it happen then I’ve got to come through.”
There’s a good chance that Adams will pass up Moss against the Steelers as he remains the Raiders’ number-one option in the passing game. Coming off of a loss, Garoppolo should seek out Adams as much as possible because he gives them the best chance of winning.
Jakobi Meyers returns to practice field
Alongside Adams, Jakobi Meyers has looked like a legitimate second option though he was ruled out for Week 2 with a concussion. However, it appears that Meyers is on track to suit up against Pittsburgh as he was seen back on the practice field.
