Over the last few weeks, J.J. McCarthy (Michigan) has appeared to separate himself as the QB4 in this draft class. Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, and Jayden Daniels are all expected to be drafted inside the top four selections and McCarthy should be picked quickly after.
However, one quarterback who is still in the Round 1 mix is Bo Nix from Oregon. After back-to-back huge seasons in Eugene, Nix has the college production, athleticism, and arm talent to be worthy of a first-round selection. But is he an option for the Raiders in Round 1?
In a recent article by Pro Football Focus, they named the best-case scenario for each team in the first round. For the Raiders, that was none other than Nix. Here is why PFF believes he would be a great fit for the Raiders at pick No. 13:
The Raiders sit in a similar spot as Denver. They need a quarterback but don’t necessarily have a premium pick, sitting one spot behind the Broncos in the first round. They do, however, seem to be more open to acquiring someone like Russell Wilson or another veteran.
Even if the Raiders do go that route, they very well could draft Oregon’s Bo Nix or Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy to develop on the bench. Nix could be the preferred option as a quick-rhythm passer the team was looking for when they signed Jimmy Garoppolo last offseason.
Nix is currently ranked at No. 36 overall on the consensus board, which would mean that this would constitute a major reach for the Raiders at No. 13. But there is a chance the Raiders could move down in the draft and still grab him.
But Nix could be a good fit in Luke Getsy’s offense and is someone who should be in consideration for the Raiders. Keep an eye on him throughout the draft process as Nix is certainly an intriguing option for Las Vegas.
