Fans vent over their least favorite coach in team history

Last week, we celebrated our favorite coaches in Raiders history with Pro Football Hall of Famers John Madden and Tom Flores getting their due flowers.

It was a fun way to celebrate the team’s rich history. This week, we flipped the script and asked our readers in our Tuesday Community Question to name their least favorite coach in team history

Yeah, not so much fun.

Yet, as often is the case, discussing bad team memories offers a chance for some good therapy. So, giving fans a chance to scream about their least favorite Raiders’ leader whether it was someone like Josh McDaniels, Dennis Allen, Bill Callahan or Norv Turner, it was good therapy.

For me, it’s a toss up between Josh McDaniels and an oldy but goodie Mike Shanahan. Both of them had the my way or the highway, “I’m the best thing since sliced bread” type of attitude. Both of them had faces that you just wanted to punch, and i’m really not a violent type of person. Although Shanny did win two ships in Denver with Elway, and he used to take our team to the woodshed on the regular, I probably liked him the least.

If I tried to honestly answer that question I would be splitting hairs all night. We’ve had some coaches that would make Browns fan cringe.

Bill Callahan (Super Bowl and dumbest team in America comment)

Josh McDaniels

Lane (Lance the Smirk) Kiffen

Art Shell 2.0 (a shell of the 90s coach)

Dennis Allen

Jack Del Rio (who gets rid of a playoff caliber OC for a neophyte?)

If this isn’t a toss up between Josh McDaniels and Dennis Allen, then it is wrong.

Okay – now we’re talking… so many. My least favorite is pretty easy – Josh McDaniels. That was just such a mind numbing dumb pick. Proof positive Mark did not know where to go for help once Madden had passed. Gruden left us in bad shape – McDaniels compounded the problems ten fold.

My second choice would be Norv Turner. Think I’ve said this before, but the day I heard he was hired – I just wrote off the next two seasons. Al was probably happy he got a competent coach when no one wanted to come to Oakland anymore, but I had absolutely no doubt whatsoever the next two seasons were going to be a wash because Al was not going to fire Norv after just one.

PS: Bill – Now you have to do WORST COACHES of all time.

I had to think about this one for a minute. There have been plenty of bad coaches over the years; Bill Callahan (yeah, I know he went to a Superbowl… doesn’t make him a good coach), Art Shell (Second tenure), Joe Bugel and Dennis Allen to name a few. Least favorite coach for me is a tie between Lane Kiffin and Josh McDaniels. Not only were they bad coaches they were all around jerks who couldn’t relate to the players, coaches and especially fans.
