Second-year receiver had a big practice day on Wednesday
Let’s just say, the Las Vegas Raiders are excited about wide receiver Bryan Edwards as he enters his second NFL season.
First, Raiders coach Jon Gruden said Edwards reminds him of Terrell Owens. Then, Raiders quarterback Derek Carr said the 2020 third-round pick from South Carolina reminds him of his college teammate Davante Adams. Then, a Raiders’ team reporter said Edwards reminded him of Randy Moss.
OK then. For those counting at home, Edwards is invoking comparisons of two Pro Football Hall of Fame members and the current best receiver in the game.
Sweet.
Jon Gruden said on NFL Network Bryan Edwards has been looking like Terrell Owens, but he’s looking more like Randy Moss to me.
He’s been catching balls with corners draped over him all Training Camp.

On Tuesday, 2020 first-round draft pick Henry Ruggs had a big day — and on Wednesday, it was Edwards’ turn.

Carr is fired up about Edwards, who had just 11 receptions in 12 games as a rookie after he had a strong rookie training camp. Carr feels like Edwards is ready for prime time.
“You know what, it reminds me a lot of Davante when he first came into college. He was redshirting, but I wanted to throw him every pass,” Carr said Wednesday.
“Even though we were getting ready for games, I’d still throw his rep. Just building that time on task. So, it was the same thing with Bryan when he wasn’t starting, I was still trying to throw his rep every day in practice. Now, I’m seeing that translate … He works extremely hard. I’m very proud of him.”
Edwards told reporters he is trying to take advantage of his opportunities. Star tight end Darren Waller, who is essentially the team’s No. 1 receiver, has been out with an undisclosed issue (it’s not expected to be serious) for a couple of days.

Carr said it has been nice to see Ruggs and Edwards produce with Waller out.
“When Darren’s out there, I’m checking plays to get him the ball. When he’s not out there, it’s fun for me and (Gruden) because I’m checking plays to get someone else a look. ‘Alright, you’re 1-on-1, you have to show us if you can do it.’ I think we saw yesterday Henry [Ruggs III] step up big time on some down the field type plays and even across the field today. Then you saw Bryan today, really step up today,” Carr said.
If the Raiders can get Ruggs and Edwards going while Waller is on the field during the regular season, this offense can be special.
