The 49ers free agent signing had 3 sacks against the Bears
San Francisco 49ers defensive end Yetur Gross-Matos was named the Defensive Player of the Week for Week 16. Gross-Matos recorded four tackles, three of them sacks, in the 49ers’ 38-13 victory over the Chicago Bears.
Gross-Matos was the only player in the NFL in Week 14 to record three sacks and the only player in the NFC with at least two sacks and three or more tackles.
Per Next Gen Stats, Gross-Matos generated a pressure rate of 27.8 percent, which was a season-high for him by six percentage points. His previous high was in Week 12 against the Green Bay Packers.
So it’s nice to know that Gross-Matos continues to be productive since his return to the lineup. Against Chicago, he also had multiple stops, along with five quarterback pressures. The 49ers will need Gross-Matos to continue to get after the quarterback, especially on Thursday night.
It’s the first Defensive Player of the Week award for Gross-Matos. He’s now the second defensive lineman to win the award for the 49ers since 2005. Nick Bosa has done it five different times.
