The week of the 2024 NFL Draft came and gone without a Brandon Aiyuk trade but it wasn’t for a lack of trying from other teams.
Aiyuk seemed to be available for the right price and according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the 49ers were looking for a similar package to the A.J. Brown deal in 2022.
The Tennessee Titans traded Brown to the Philadelphia Eagles during the 2022 NFL Draft and got the No. 18 and No. 101 pick back in return. The Eagles then signed Brown to a mega-extension after the deal was announced.
Teams didn’t want to bite on the asking price for Aiyuk even though he’s one of the best receivers in football. Instead, he remains a member of the 49ers as they try and give him a big extension.
If talks fall through, both sides could revisit a trade but the main goal is to sign a long-term extension.
Aiyuk had another stellar season in 2023, finishing with 75 receptions for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns. It was the second straight season that he’s finished with 1,000+ yards.
For his career, he’s compiled 269 receptions for 3.931 yards and 25 touchdowns.
