The San Francisco 49ers enter the 2021 season with a major question at quarterback: will it be veteran Jimmy Garoppolo or rookie Trey Lance who gets to start?
San Francisco gave up quite a few draft picks to move up and select Lance – who is clearly the future of the team. Jimmy G knows that his days in San Francisco are numbered as a result.
That could make things awkward between the two quarterbacks. However, Lance made it clear that there is no awkwardness between the two quarterbacks.
“No, there’s no awkwardness at all,” Lance said, via Cam Inman of the Bay Area News Group. “We’re good friends. We’ve gotten to spend a lot more time together now and definitely looking forward to continue learning as much as I can from him. He’s one of the best people that I’ve ever been around on and off the field. So just super excited to continue to learn this year as much as I can from him.”

It certainly helps that head coach Kyle Shanahan has made it clear that Jimmy Garoppolo is the team’s starting quarterback.
“Jimmy is our best quarterback in the building right now,” the coach told reporters earlier this week. “There’s no open competition right now.”
We’ll have to wait and see if Jimmy G holds on to the starting job for the whole season.
