Throughout the 2023 offseason, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance has been considered as a possible trade target for teams around the league.
While others believe it may be time for Lance’s San Francisco career to come to an end, Lance himself is confident that he wants to continue with the Niners.
Lance said he never considered the possibility of a trade at any point this offseason.
“No doubt for me, this is absolutely where I want to be,” he said, per team insider Nick Wagoner.

When the 49ers selected Lance with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 draft, he was widely considered as the team’s eventual quarterback of the future. The former North Dakota State star spent his rookie season as a backup behind Jimmy Garoppolo and won the starting job ahead of the 2022 campaign.
Unfortunately, Lance suffered a season-ending ankle injury in Week 2. Jimmy G then suffered a season-ending injury of his own, making way for rookie Brock Purdy.
With an outstanding run to end the season, Purdy may have solidified his spot as the Niners’ QB1 — but that’s not stopping Lance from trying to win his job back.
San Francisco will kickoff its 2023 regular season with a Week 1 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers on September 10.
