That’s despite fewer than 40% of fans being confident in the current direction of the team
Today is a get-right game for the San Francisco 49ers. It’s a spot where they should win by at least two touchdowns. They’re at home against an offense that doesn’t scare you and a defense that doesn’t stop you.
That’s why the Niners are 10.5-point favorites on FanDuel, with a total on the game of 42.
When you look at the 49ers schedule, a 1-2 record could be a distant memory if they beat the Patriots, Arizona Cardinals, and Seattle Seahawks. If we’re being honest, the next two games after that against the Kansas City Chiefs and Dallas Cowboys aren’t as daunting as they appeared before the season started.
Reeling off a 5-game winning streak is putting the cart before the horse. We asked if you were confident in the direction of the team, and 36 percent of fans said no:
The Niners lost two contributors this past week to season-ending injuries. Shortsgate was just another feather in the hat of a typical week in 49ers land.
Despite losing to the Los Angeles Rams last week, the short-term future is bright. Deebo Samuel and George Kittle are expected to return to action today. A win today would stop the bleeding. Then, the next two games against NFC West opponents would make everybody feel much better about the future.
By then, perhaps the 49ers could have rookie Ricky Pearsall on the field as they take on the Cowboys and the Chiefs. So, while the confidence isn’t high here in September, that figures to change come the winter months. It’s why 76 percent of fans are confident that San Francisco will find themselves in the postseason:
We’re not even to the quarter point of the season. There’s a lot of football to be played, and we have little reason to believe this team cannot turn it around. They’ve done it before, with a worse roster.
