Kyle Shanahan said Dre Greenlaw “understood” the decision to sit him out these final 2 games.
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan provided injury updates ahead of Monday night’s game against the Detroit Lions.
The following players will not practice on Thursday:
OL Spencer Burford (calf)
LB Dre Greenlaw (calf)
LG Aaron Banks (knee)
DE Robert Beal (ankle)
The following players are limited:
S Ji’Ayir Brown (ankle)
RB Isaac Guerendo (foot/hamstring)
Shanahan confirmed Nick Bosa is good to go and off the injury report.
As for Aaron Banks, Shanahan was unsure if he’d need surgery: “Can’t remember. I know he’s got an MCL. I don’t remember what they told me a few days ago.” Shanahan added that Banks needing surgery wouldn’t impact the 49ers’ decision in free agency: “No if he does, it’s minor. He’s gonna be good in a few weeks, they say.”
Shanahan didn’t have any specifics on what he heard back from the doctors about Spencer Burford: “He won’t be able to go today. Hopefully, he will later in the week, but it’s going to be tight. There’s a chance.”
The plan is to work with newly signed Charlie Heck at a couple of spots. As Shanahan said, “We have to mix and match a number of guys.”
As for Dre Greenlaw, “He’s not going to play in these two games,” per Shanahan. Kyle said that Dre “understood” the decision.
The 49ers announced they opened the practice window for linebacker Tatum Bethune to return from the Injured Reserve List. He has not played since Week 11 against the Seattle Seahawks after being ruled out the following week with an ankle injury.
