Stephen A. Smith is not happy with Jimmy Garoppolo’s response to a question about former teammate Trey Lance’s trade to the Dallas Cowboys.
On First Take this morning, Smith said Garoppolo needs to focus on his own career instead of commenting on his old team, the San Francisco 49ers.
“My perspective is Jimmy Garoppolo needs to shut the hell up. Just shut up and play,” Smith said.

If you’re wondering where this all started, Garoppolo was asked for his opinion on Lance being traded to Dallas during an interview with Sports Illustrated’s Robin Lundberg.
“Weird situation,” Garoppolo told Lundberg. “Been a lot of weird situations over there in San Francisco. I’ll just leave it at that. But I’m happy Trey got another shot. I’m happy he’s getting to Dallas, gets another opportunity and hopefully things work out there.”
But it seems that Smith wasn’t irked by Garoppolo answering the question, but “the words that he chose when he did.”
“First of all, let’s understand who Jimmy Garoppolo is. He’s a damn good quarterback when he’s playing, but it’s rare that he plays,” Smith said. “He spends more time in an infirmary than on a football field, some would argue.
“If he ain’t doing that, he’s with porn stars in California…When you don’t have that going on, you’re missing throws in the Super Bowl that could have helped your team win.”
