Will the brothers both hunt together in 2025?
Last week, the Los Angeles Chargers released former first-round pick and older brother of San Francisco 49ers Nick Bosa, Joey Bosa. It didn’t take Sherlock Holmes to put two and two together to come to the conclusion that the Bosa’s would be interested in joining forces and playing on the Niners for at least one year in 2025.
On Sunday, it was reported that the 49ers and Joey were trending toward a deal. It was also reported that the elder Bosa would have multiple suitors, which is to be expected. The Athletic’s Dianna Russini tweeted, “While the idea of playing with his brother Nick in San Francisco appeals to Joey Bosa, he is expected to garner strong interest from the Dolphins.”
The connection to both franchises is family based. Bosa’s father is a former Dolphin and the younger bear is a 49er. Questions about Joey’s role and contract number are valid as it feels like at this point in his career, Bosa is closer to a situational pass rusher than an every down EDGE.
While the interest is real from the Dolphins and 49ers, the report from Mike Silver about the ten million dollar number for Bosa’s services took a turn on Monday night.
I talked to someone familiar with these discussions who disputes that any offer was made by the 49ers, and insists that these numbers are wrong. These are fluid discussions and obviously proposals/scenarios can change. It’s possible Bosa will get more than $10 million from a… https://t.co/53kCgTrLuN

Given the new cost cutting philosphy of the 49ers organization this offseason, there is some hesitance to allocating big money to the EDGE rusher with health concerns. The 49ers are prepared to part ways with Javon Hargrave and Maliek Collins in the coming days, but EDGE is a concern for the 49ers defense in 2025. Signing Bosa and pairing him with veteran Leonard Floyd could be the recipe for constant pressure while keeping both players fresh.
Day two of free agency kicks off today and it is up to the 49ers to answer the bell if they want to bring Nick’s bigger brother to the Bay.
