ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that it’s unlikely San Francisco 49ers RB Isaac Guerendo will suit up this coming Sunday against the Miami Dolphins
ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted that Isaac Guerendo is unlikely to play this coming Sunday after he suffered a hamstring injury against the Los Angeles Rams last Thursday. Guerendo was also dealing with a foot sprain, so multiple injuries will prevent the rookie from making his second start of the season.
When it rains, it pours, it’s been a torrential downpour for the 49ers running back room this season. Christian McCaffrey was ruled out for the season with a PCL injury. McCaffrey battled back from a calf injury that was only supposed to keep him out six weeks but ended up costing him more than two months of the season.
Coming into the season, Elijah Mitchell was McCaffrey’s backup. Before the 49ers put pads on during training camp, Guerendo was also sidelined with a hamstring injury, and Mitchell had already missed his first practice. Mitchell landed on the Injured Reserve because of a hamstring injury, and his season was over before it started.
That opened the door for Jordan Mason, who was leading the league in rushing at one point this season. But an AC sprain limited Mason, and a high-ankle sprain cut his season once-promising season short.
Now, the 49ers running back room consists of Patrick Taylor Jr., Israel Abanikanda, and Ke’Shawn Vaughn from the practice squad. How the 49ers divvy up carries will be something to keep an eye on.
They signed Abanikanda off waivers from the Jets at the beginning of December. If there were ever a time to find out what you have in him, it’s now.
