Austen Pleasants has been added to the practice squad after the 49ers worked out Pleasants, David Sharpe, Zach Johnson, and Jaylen Mayfield on Monday
The San Francisco 49ers had no new injuries to report after their Week 15 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.
They’re still waiting for Trent Williams to return. Here’s what Kyle Shanahan said about Williams this past Friday and his ankle injury:
“He’s trying to get back, but it’s just been a frustrating injury for him. It hasn’t healed like he or we would like. Hopefully, having these ten more days before our next game gives a better chance. But, Trent’s doing everything he can to get back, but he is injured, and with the injury, there is a chance he will get back, but it has to start recovering, and it’s been a lot slower than anticipated.”
Aaron Wilson tweeted on Monday that the 49ers worked out four different offensive linemen: Austen Pleasants, David Sharpe, Zach Johnson, and Jaylen Mayfield.
What do these players have in common? Aside from Johnson, each player is an offensive tackle. If Williams remains sidelined, the 49ers are thin at practice and will need another body.
Per Wilson, the 49ers ended up signing Pleasants to the practice squad following a successful workout.
Pleasants played 32 snaps at left tackle for the Chicago Bears in the first preseason game this year, then flipped to the right side in the final preseason game. Pleasants has not played a regular-season snap in 2024. His only regular season appearance in 2023 came in Week 18, where he played ten snaps at right guard.
That’s the only time the 6’7, 330-pound undrafted free agent from the University of Ohio in 2020 has stepped onto the field on offense.
