ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that 49ers RB Isaac Guerendo will play tonight after battling a foot sprain
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that San Francisco 49ers rookie running back Isaac Guerendo plans to play Thursday night against the Los Angeles Rams. Guerendo has a foot sprain that caused him to miss practice on Monday and Tuesday, but he was limited on Wednesday.
Reports of Guerendo not wearing a boot in the locker room postgame were good news for the rookie’s status. There was rain in the Bay Area overnight. There’s about a coin-flip chance of rain for the game, so the 49ers will need a running back to run the ball to avoid needing Brock Purdy to throw it 40+ times in the event of precipitation.
Guerendo, fresh off a season-high 15 carries, had two explosive plays in Week 14 against the Chicago Bears. He has the ability for an explosive play every time he touches the ball. The same cannot be said for his backup, Patrick Taylor Jr.
Guerendo became the fourth player in franchise history to have 100+ yards from scrimmage and at least two touchdowns in his first start and the first since Carlos Hyde in 2015.
If Guerendo can’t run at full speed, Taylor Jr., Ke’Shawn Vaughn, and Israel Abanikanda are the other options.
