Carolina signed linebacker Chandler Wooten from the Niners practice squad
A week ago, the San Francisco 49ers signed linebacker Chandler Wooten to the practice squad. Wooten replaced the suspended De’Vondre Campbell.
He had previously spent time with the Arizona Cardinals and Carolina Panthers, appearing in 20 games with the Panthers, including three this season. Carolina had released Wooten from their practice squad on November 7.
Wooten did not play for the 49ers against the Miami Dolphins in Week 16. His 49ers career will be short-lived, as the Panthers plucked Wooten from San Francisco’s practice squad Tuesday morning, per Carolina’s Twitter account.
On Monday, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said his gut feeling was that the team would shut down Dre Greenlaw for the final two games of the season.
And with Dee Winters day-to-day, the likelihood that Wooten would have been needed for these final two weeks was high. Now, DaShaun White is the only linebacker on the practice squad. Expect the 49ers to make a roster addition at the position in the coming days.
