After moving heaven and earth to move up and get Trey Lance in the 2021 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers have signed their rookie quarterback.
On Wednesday’ Lance’s representatives at CAA Football tweeted that he has signed a contract with the 49ers. The post included a picture of Lance literally putting the pen to paper.
With a few scribbles on some paper, Lance has now become a very rich man. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that it’s a four-year, $34.1 million fully-guaranteed contract.
As with all contracts for a rookie first-round pick, the deal includes a fifth-year team option. Judging by what the 49ers gave up to get him, they’ll want Lance around for the long term.

In 2019, Trey Lance enjoyed an incredible breakout season with North Dakota State, leading them to a perfect season in more ways than one. While the Bison went 16-0 and won the FCS national championship, Lance led them without throwing a single interception.
That year he completed 67-percent of his passes for 2,786 yards and 28 touchdowns. No picks.
Lance was limited to just one game due to the COVID-19 pandemic this past year. But NFL teams were sold.
The San Francisco 49ers moved up to the No. 3 spot in the draft weeks ahead of it in order to be in a position to draft Lance. After Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson went first and second respectively, the 49ers quickly pounced on Lance.
While he isn’t expected to start camp, or the regular season, Lance figures to be a big part of the 49ers’ long term plans.
Welcome to the NFL!
