49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan had promising news to share Tuesday regarding second-year quarterback Brock Purdy.
Purdy, who underwent elbow surgery this offseason, is expected to throw sometime next week. At least that’s what Shanahan told reporters when discussing the Iowa State product’s recovery.
“He’s doing good,” Shanahan said, via 49ers WebZone. “Still staying the same. [He’s] on schedule.”
Purdy hasn’t thrown for roughly three months. Although he still has several obstacles to clear before he’s back 100 percent, Tuesday’s update is a huge step in the right direction.
Obviously, 49ers fans are amped up about Purdy’s return to the gridiron.

Purdy looked sensational at times last season, completing 67.1 percent of his passes for 1,374 yards with 13 touchdowns and four interceptions.
The 49ers made the NFC Championship Game before Purdy got hurt. If he can pick up where he left off, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them get back to the big game.
