San Francisco 49ers rookie quarterback Trey Lance couldn’t escape his first preseason without suffering an injury. Thankfully, it’s a very minor one.
Lance suffered a small crack in a finger on his throwing hand during the team’s preseason finale this past weekend. He will miss about a week, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan.
It sounds like Jimmy Garoppolo was going to be San Francisco’s starter in Week 1 anyway, but Lance having to miss some time this close to the opener just about seals it up. The Niners have indicated they could use both quarterbacks in games when the regular season starts anyway.

I often find these “chips” between my fingers but it takes far less time than a week for them to disappear. The salty, oily residue might make it hard to throw a football though https://t.co/Xrsw3uU4lH

While San Francisco does seem to trust Garoppolo to be its starter, it is clear that the organization is extremely high on Lance. We can’t wait to see how he does in games as a rookie.
In the meantime, hopefully he makes a swift recovery from his finger injury.
