San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance has been named as a possible trade target ahead of the 2023 NFL season.
That being said, it appears nothing is going to get done before tonight’s first round of the draft. NFL insider Josina Anderson says no trade for Lance is anticipated as “no substantive talks” have transpired over the last 72 hours.
The Houston Texans, one of the teams mentioned as a possible pre-draft suitor for Lance, have reportedly not reached out to the Niners.
I’m told-as of this hour-no trade is currently* anticipated for #49ers QB Trey Lance as no substantive talks have transpired over the last 72 hrs.
Of course eyes remain on teams such as the Texans, as one example, if they don’t go QB, but HOU has not reached out on Lance so far.

The 49ers selected Lance with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 draft. After a year behind veteran Jimmy Garoppolo, the former North Dakota State star finally won the starting job before the start of the 2022 season.
Unfortunately, he suffered a season-ending foot injury in Week 2 — setting in motion the eventual start for 2022 Mr. Irrelevant, Brock Purdy.
With Purdy’s late-season and postseason success, the Niners could have their new quarterback of the future. The team also brought on veteran QB Sam Darnold as a backup earlier this offseason — giving them a surplus of QB options heading into the 2023 campaign.
